November 30, 2013-Month of November

That’s right, it seems only fit that on the last day of November I’m thankful for the month of November. I had so much fun this month listing out what I’m thankful for, as a few days actually made me sit and pause. There are so many things to be thankful for, and in the rush of a busy day I think sometimes people forget to sit back and appreciate the little things.

I realized over the last month that between people like family and friends, and to things such as my car, and my job, I have a lot to be thankful for. If one of these challenges was posted for the rest of my life, I would never run out of things to post/blog about.

So today I’m thankful that the month of November made me sit back and take stock of how much goodness I have in my life. So thank you November, you rock my mis-matched socks. 🙂

November 29, 2013-Mama Bears

I am thankful for mama bears, and I don’t just mean actual bears that are mamas. Most women that are mom’s, that are good moms, I refer to as Mama Bears. They’re usually protective of their kids, and have more kids then just their actual kids. As I mentioned in a previous post, my mom works at a deli where it’s mostly guys, but they all call her mom. So, I call my mom Mama Bear (as do a lot of the guys). My aunt is also considered a mama bear. She has two kids, a son and an adopted daughter. However, I’ve always considered her my second mom. She’s always been there for me, and I know that when I have kids, she will be their grandma. 🙂 So today is a shout-out to all of those mom’s that have dozens of kids, without actually having dozens of kids. Love ya mama bears!! ❤

November 28, 2013-Holidays

I know that seems kind of unoriginal considering what today is, but for me it’s pretty important, especially this year. As I mentioned in one of my last posts, I did an internship at Disney World last year from August until January. So, I missed the essential holidays that I normally would have spent with a TON of family. So even though I’m still super bummed I’m not in Florida, I’m EXTREMELY excited to be spending Thanksgiving with my family. Tomorrow we’re trying something new with some family/friends at a local lodge. And Friday we’re having about 12-15 people over to the house, and mom and I will be cooking all day. I LOVE A FULL HOUSE. And I can’t wait to spend the day with everyone. 🙂

November 27, 2013-Moral Lessons and Parents

Today I am thankful for moral lessons, or any lessons at all really, and parents who teach them. I truly believe that too many people now want to be their kids friend, and not enough parents actually want to be “a real parent.”

I’ve worked retail most of my life, and I remember those families where the kid would be screaming, and wouldn’t stop, so the mom or dad gave in and got them that chocolate bar.

I also see the news stories now about kids that bully other kids, and even though the school I went to was far from perfect, I don’t ever remember anyone getting bullied that bad. I think because the school I went to was so diverse….nobody really cared if you dressed all in black and wore your hair over your eyes. Or if you were pink converse with the tightest skinny jeans you could find.

Recently a friend of mine had some trouble with her daughter (we’ll call my friend Josy, and her daughter, Lizzy-so as not to get confused). Lizzy is about 12, and was given a cell phone for her birthday (one of the ones with emergency contact info only), however, there’s also a camera on it. Now, on Lizzy’s school bus is another girl who has some type of disease (not sure if it’s cancer or what), but she’ been losing her hair and is super self-conscious. Lizzy and and one of her friend’s one day, took the cell phone and teased this poor sick girl, by pretending to take photos of her.

When the school contacted my friend, Josy, she was in shock…she had never raised her to daughter to act as such. She had no idea what to do. So she spoke to Lizzy’s father (they’re not together anymore, but both play a vital role in her life), and he is the one that came up with her punishment. He made her sit in front of a computer and watch videos of other kids with disease, talk about how they hated their lives, and wish they would just die, and how some had even tried to commit suicide because of other kids teasing them.

Needless to say, by the end, Lizzy was brought to tears as much as this sick girl had been that day on the bus. My friend Josy, made her write a letter to the girl, and give it to her personally and apologize.

You see these types of stories all the time online, and people constantly say that these types of punishments don’t work…..but it’s better then pretending it didn’t happen. It’s better then telling your kid “It’s okay, just don’t do it again.” It’s not okay. And your kid probably will do it again.

So I’m thankful for the parents who can grow a pair and actually raise their children, not coddle them.

November 26, 2013-Christmas Cards

At work today we are working on compiling our list of accounts to send Christmas cards to!!! 🙂 I was so excited when we got them, because they’re all sparkly and pretty (and even there’s no Santa or house with a wreath), they have a simplistic beauty.

As I’m putting them in their envelopes, I don’t even mind that there’s fairy dust everywhere…..okay maybe I mind a little, but only because I’m wearing black pants. 😛

Anyway, THANK YOU CHRISTMAS CARDS!!!! You’re awesome!!!

November 25, 2013-Doctors

I know what some of you are thinking as you read this title. “She’s thankful for doctors, she’s nutz. They’re nutz.” And I agree with you….to a point.

No one enjoys going to the doctors, ever, I don’t care what you say. Unless your doctor is like, Channing Tatum, of Johnny Depp, then maybe you enjoy going to see your doctor. 🙂

Channing Tatum-because who wouldn't want THAT as their doctor?????
Channing Tatum-because who wouldn’t want THAT as their doctor?????
Johnny Depp-because who wouldn't want THAT as their doctor?????
Johnny Depp-because who wouldn’t want THAT as their doctor?????

Anyway, recently I’ve had some health stuff, and one doctor thought it was one thing, and after a month, it only got worse. So, last night I went to the doctors again, and saw a different one. She gave me this funny, “lightbulb” look, and said that what I had she had only seen once before, and so she wanted to look it up.

She called two other hospitals and gathered her colleagues around the computer, and I commenced to be a lab rat as everyone wanted to see what I had, because apparently she was the only one who knew what it was, and no one else had seen it before. Which is fine. I don’t mind helping doctors get knowledge, I think that’s awesome. But needless to say, if that doctor hadn’t been there, I would still be sitting in misery, wondering what I had.

And really it’s not important about what it was, or is, what’s important is that there was a doctor who was able to figure it out. SO I’m thankful for her. And all doctors like her. Bless you all.

November 24, 2013-Snow

If you live in the Northeast and don’t like snow……..why are you still here?????????

Just kidding! 🙂 Kinda. I’m not gonna lie and say I LOVE snow, because I don’t. I told you earlier, my two favorite places are Vermont and Florida, well, the snow is why Florida is my favorite. 🙂

But it is SUPER pretty to look at it. I live in the country, and it’s always pretty looking down our road after it snows and seeing the trees dusted with snow.

I also like seeing our dogs’ foot prints. I don’t know why, but it’s always been super pretty to me. 🙂 Seeing Athena play in the snow is just funny. 🙂

Yes, she's jumping. :)
Yes, she’s jumping. 🙂

And even though it’s dangerous, I love seeing the snow and ice on power wires too….it’s just pretty……

I guess I’m just thankful for the beauty of it all. 🙂 Thank you!!!!

November 23, 2013-My Nieces and Nephews

Last night (the 23rd) my niece Chloe, and my nephew Logan slept over. My parents plan to have each of them over in groups of two, so it’s a bit more manageable, for those of you who don’t remember, I have EIGHT nieces and nephews. I love them all to death, and I thank God for them each day. They’re absolutely gorgeous, and I can’t wait for my brothers Elliott and Joshua to have even more!!!!

My nieces and nephews are, in order of age (I think, lol): Haylie, Logan, Austin, DJ, Maddie, Ava, Melanie, and Chloe. And here they are:

November 22, 2013-Everything Disney

I really don’t even know where to start with this one except the beginning.

In my last year of college (2012) I applied for an internship down at Walt Disney World, and I got it. It’s called the Disney College Program, and it was the BEST experience of my life. I can’t even begin to describe, at least not in any way that will do it justice.

When I got accepted, it was for housekeeping, and I was so excited at the time that I didn’t even care what job it was for. I wound up working for Coronado Springs and Resort, and even though it was housekeeping, I LOVE EVERY SECOND OF IT. ❤

No matter where you worked, you had a costume, which is your uniform. This was mine…….

Don’t laugh. 😛 It was actually SUPER comfy….but that’s about it, lol. And because I was in housekeeping I learned how to make more then a dozen special touches. Here are some of them…..

Not only did we have to work, but we even had time to go to the parks!!!!!!!!! My favorite was Epcot, but the fireworks at Magic Kingdom were GORGEOUS!!! ❤

I could seriously go on and on about my time at Disney. I think what I was most thankful for was just being able to put a smile on people’s faces. There was a room, for a special touch I took the little boys stuffed animal dog, and took a roll of toilet paper and made it look like the dog had been playing with it……the smile on that child’s face…..I’ll never forget it. Ever. It was simply amazing driving under the sign that said “Walt Disney World-Where Dreams Come True”, every day. 🙂

November 21, 2013-My Aunts

I have a lot of aunts, but I have a few that I would like to think of as very close. Aunt Cathy, Debbie and Diane. I love al three of them so much. ❤ Don’t get me wrong, I love every other aunt just as much, but these are the three I see the most, and each holds a special spot in my heart.

My Aunt Cathy is like a second mom to me. There isn’t a memory I have as a child where she wasn’t there for a birthday or a holiday. She’s always been there for me, and I know that when I have kids, they will be her grandkids. She loves life, and people, and laughter. She’s an easy person to get along with, and I LOVE HER SO MUCH! ❤

Next is Aunt Debbie. She’s my aunt that lives in Pennsylvania that I go to visit for my Pennsylvania Weekends. She married my uncle when I was in middle school, and I was the maid of honor in their wedding. She’s a very easy person to talk to, and I feel like whenever I go down there we have great conversations. I know that I can go to her and my uncle with any problem, and they’ll be there for me. I love her to death. ❤

And finally, there’s Aunt Diane. She’s my Uncle Brian’s wife, and even though I never saw them often growing up, lately, now that they’ve moved closer, I see them a lot, and I feel like I’m really getting closer to them. She’s the one who’s inspired me to start this blog, and I can’t wait for the opportunity for us to bounce ideas off of each other!!! 🙂

Each of my aunts is special in their own way, and I will love them for and ever. I could not have asked God for anyone better. ❤ Thank you guys for being awesome! ❤
