Interesting People Day 1

“Today I’ll notice the uniqueness in the people around me. What makes each of us special?”

I found this quote in a book recently, and it kind of struck a chord in me…
What interesting people have you met in your life?

Since I’ve moved to Vermont, I’ve met a lot of people, and I think I’ve just kind of taken them at face value (I know I’ve realized some of them are a bit unique), but it didn’t strike me how amazing each one was until I was telling my friends back home about everyone…one of my friends said “Brittney, you’re so lucky. You meet the most amazing people.”

And it’s true. I’ve totally met, and had the pleasure of talking to, those people that other people always wonder about. I haven’t met the cliché of an old man placing flowers on a grave every morning, but I know the old couple that sits out on their porch…I know the woman that wanders through the trees and talks to them. And they’re all incredible people with incredible stories. Have you ever talked to this person? Over the next few days I’m going to be posting pictures and stories of some of these incredible people (and maybe even some places!), enjoy!!!

Valentine in VT

First, is Lu. She’s one of my co-workers up here in The Great NEK. When I first met her I found her a bit intimidating, because of the way she concentrates, believe it or not. She’s that person that frowns and stares intently at whatever she’s doing, and it makes you think “Oh God, did I do something to make her mad?” But she’s rarely ever in a bad mood. Lu is an ex-lawyer turned concierge specialist…yeah. She’s originally from Wisconsin, and than she moved to Minnesota for law school. She was actually pretty popular when she was at her first firm, and she made a good amount of money (I guess the old “lawyers are rich” was true in her case), BUT, she wasn’t happy. So after “X” amount of years in suits, meetings, cities and tall rise offices, she moved to Vermont. She works with me at the lodge now, and she loves it. We don’t make a lot, but she and I are both trying to live with the thought that, “as long as you’re happy, it doesn’t matter how much money you make” (we’ll see how long that lasts before my school loans make my pocket tight).

Tell me about YOUR interesting people!

Life Trip-VT

So…..I’ve always kind of wondered and pondered what my blog should be about (as everything in past posts kind of varies depending on current moods/topics/interest, etc.), and I found something to keep me busy for the next few months. About two or three months ago I received a significant promotion at work, which has been absolutely incredible! 🙂 However, the company I work for is small, and sadly, the owner’s just don’t care as much as they should…so, I will be moving on soon (my notice is going to be put in, in eleven days and counting.)

About two weeks ago, I got a job offer for a Lodge in Vermont, which I am taking. 🙂 I’m super excited because I’ve never lived on my own before (I’m not really counting Disney as I had three roommates), and it’s something completely different.

So, for the next few months my blog will concentrate on my new job, how it is living on my own, and hopefully I can give some advice (or at least some tips on what not to do) to other people moving out on their own for the first time.

Good luck movers!!!!

Daily Prompt: In the Summertime

http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2014/04/06/daily-prompt-in-the-summertime/

Kayaking. Kayaking is one of my favorite summer time hobbies. (My aunt is a die-hard that will kayak even in the dead of winter-as long as there is water and no ice) I’m a normal person that only goes during the summer. 🙂

Driving the car with the windows all the way down…..that’s another thing that I’ve missed that I can’t wait to do again. I LOVE to drive, and my first trip is in two weeks, I’m really hoping the weather is going to be good enough for my windows being down. *fingers crossed*

WHAT ABOUT MY OTHER NORTHERN BUDDIES???????????!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT DO YOU LOVE AND MISS AFTER THIS RIDICULOUSLY LONG WINTER??????

Daily Prompt: If You Leave

http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2014/03/12/daily-prompt-if-you-leave/

Life is a series of beginnings and endings. We leave one job to start another; we quit cities, countries, or continents for a fresh start; we leave lovers and begin new relationships. What was the last thing you contemplated leaving? What were the pros and cons? Have you made up your mind? What will you choose?

Oh my God!!! My life right now!!!!!!!! lol

Sometimes I get so sick of life drama that I just want to pick-up and move somewhere where I know no one, and no one knows me. But then I have to remind myself that drama and “life situations” are every where.

However recently, my chance at “leaving” came in the form of a job offer. I currently work at a fairly large hotel property in Albany, New York. My title is Sales Coordinator, and I LOVE my job. I sell overnight rooms to large groups, and I get the chance to sell our banquet space for parties, weddings and meeting/conventions. (We have about 8,000 sq ft worth of banquet space) So even though I work with the “bride-zillas” and stressed out soccer moms every once in awhile, I’m always working with the people so excited about their wedding or vow renewal, or pumped to win their sports game while knowing they have a clean hotel they can come back to when they’re done.

The job offer I got was for the position of Catering Sales Manager at a completely different property (not the same brand either). The offer over the phone sounded amazing. I would finally have a manager title (something I’ve been waiting for, for about 6-months now) and it was essentially a $10,000 raise a year from what I’m making now.

I went down to the property (it’s in the heart of downtown-one of my cons, because I already live about 20-30 minutes WITHOUT drive-home traffic, and this adds another 10 minutes to my drive) and of course, it was gorgeous. It was only about six years old, and they’d done some pretty extensive renovating.

Then I sat down with the person who would be my manager and learned the full story. Yeah, I would be making that extra bit of money, but not only would I be driving further and through more traffic, I would be doing the job of three people because they’re short-handed (their Sales Manager had quit that morning) and I had to be at every event. There were a few other cons also, but honestly, my list would be to long, lol. 🙂

Anyway, I went back to my hotel, and I had a few people question how it went (I’m really close with my coworkers and we all want what’s best for each other-even if it means moving to a different property to better ourselves). After I told them my pros and cons, they all kind of nodded, made a few comments but didn’t say anything.

I went home, slept on it and decided to stay where I was. Even though I was getting that extra money, there were just too many cons, and I didn’t think it was worth it.

Even though sometimes we want to leave and start over, sometimes it’s just better for us to stay where we are and wait for that “awesome-something” to come along.

Everything happens for a reason, and I believe that. 🙂

P.S. My dream? Move to Disney. ❤

Daily Prompt: Predictions

http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2014/01/21/daily-prompt-future-3/

July 30 seems like such a random date…….I’m just sayin’!!!! 🙂

Anyway, by then I’m hoping to have gotten a promotion at work! We recently got a new General Manager for the hotel where I work, and he’s already made it known that he wants me to be his Assistant General Manager. Of course, the final decision is up to the owner of the hotel (duh-:P), but I can be patient. Lol, it’s hard though!! I know I can do the job, and I’m SUPER excited for it, so I’m definitely ready for it to be here already. 🙂

My mom told me the other day that patience is a virtue….I gotta say, I don’t think it’s one that I possess. XD

KEEPING MY FINGERS CROSSED!!!!!!!!!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Let There Be Light

The other day my brother asked me to go with him on a  short, one hour road trip. (Two for the return trip) Anyway, it was odd at the time, mostly because my brother has a lot of friends, and he always has one or more by his hip all the time. Not to say he never has time for me, because he does, but I’m not usually on his list of first to ask.

So when he did ask, at first I was like “I’m to tired, NNNOOOO.” But he asked again, and again, and again. So finally I consented and we went on our way. It was really enjoyable. We played music neither of us had heard, and we shared music we like, and I took pictures. 🙂 One that I took was the following, which I knew I had to use for this weekly prompt. Hope you enjoy it. 🙂
